Chennai, Nov 11 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu will stage a demonstration on November 19, demanding redressal of the grievances of sugarcane farmers and payment of arrears to the tune of Rs 250 crore to them by private sugar mills.

The agitation would be held in nine places in the State, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa said in a statement here today.

She said the agitation was also to press the DMK Government to direct the nine cooperative sugar mills and 11 private mills to pay the price to the farmers on the lines of those fixed by the previous AIADMK regime.

Observing that the price of molasses sold in the private market was low in the State, which was having surplus quantity, she said the government should immediately implement open tender system, which in turn would provide more profit to the exchequer.

Ms Jayalalithaa also wanted the government to encourage production of ethanol from molasses.
