33.55 lakh metric tonnes of paddy procured in Haryana

Chandigarh, Nov 11 (UNI) The six government procuring agencies have procured 17.29 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far out of total arrival of 33.55 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in 179 mandis of the State.

While enumerating the details of the arrival of paddy in the state, a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department said that out of total arrival 24.96 lakh metric tonnes was leviable paddy while 8.57 lakh paddy non-leviable.

He said that out of total leviable paddy arrival 73 per cent paddy was purchased by the six government procuring agencies and rest was purchased by the millers.

He said that HAFED had procured 7 lakh MTs, of paddy, Food and Supplies Department had procured 5.49 lakh MTs of paddy, Agro Industries Corporation 2.17 lakh MTs, Confed 1.94 lakh MTs and Haryana Warehousing Corporation 57,732 MTs of paddy and Food Corporation of India 8919 MTs.

The spokesman said that Kurukshetra district was on the top in arrival of paddy in all the districts of the State with the arrival of 6.59 lakh MTs of paddy followed by Karnal 5.64 lakh MTs, Fatehabad 4.61 lakh MTs, Kaithal 3.90 lakh MTs, Ambala 2.89 lakh MTs, Yamunanagar 2.07 lakh MTs and Sirsa 1.56 MTs and Faridabad 1.29 lakh MTs and Panchkula 44247 MTs.

He said that Centre had announced a bonus of Rs.50 per quintal on the paddy to the farmers besides the payment was also being made within 48 to 72 hours to the farmers. A sum of Rs. 985 crore had been arranged for the payment of paddy to the farmers, he added.
