Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Nov 10 (UNI) Police today registered cases against 29 tourists, including two foreign nationals, for taking a ride in a boat to various points around the Rameswaram town violating a ban imposed in view of the ongoing clashes between the Sri Lankan Army and LTTE.
Police said a group of tourists, including two foreigners, 17 people from Tamil Nadu and others from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, took a ride in a country boat to various points in the town.
The Indian Naval personnel, who were on an aerial reconnaissance, spotted the tourists and in turn informed the local police.
The police intercepted the boat under the Pamban Bridge and directed them to return to the coast.
On interrogation, the tourists revealed that the boat owner had offered them a ride for Rs 50 per person.
Later, as they were found innocent, they were let off after being fined. A case had been registered against the boat owner, the sources said.
