Dehradun, Nov 9 (UNI) Ace Indian shooter Jaspal Rana was today felicitated by the Uttarakhand Government for his sporting feats here on the ocassion of the seventh anniversary of the state.
Mr Rana who was born in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and have a credit of equalling the World Record in 25 m Centre-Fire Pistol, earning 590 points during the 2006 Asian Games, was presented Rs 25 lakh and a shawl by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri at a function organised to celebrate the of state's anniversary.
The Arjuna Awardee Rana was acompanied by his father Narayan Singh Rana.
Chief Minister Khanduri after felicitating Rana said the amount presented to him was mere a token of honour from the state government.
''His achievements as sports person can not be compared with money of any amount,'' Khanduri said, adding that Rana had brought laurel not only to the state but he was the pride of entire country.
Mr Rana had started his shooting career in the tender age of 12 when he won a silver medal in Junior National Championship. Since then he never looked back. He is politically involved with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and had earlier indicated towards contesting election.
