Srirangam, Nov 9 (UNI) Security measures were tightened around the controversial Periyar statue here today following an anonymous call that the statue would be blasted.
Police said the call was received by the Taluk office staff last night, alleging that a gang would throw a bomb at the statue and blast it.
The staff, in turn, alerted the police.
A police party, including members of a bomb detection squad rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough check, but found nothing indiscriminate.
The security measures were, however, beefed up in and around the statue, police added.
