Srinagar, Nov 9 (UNI) One of the two fidayeen (members of suicide squad) holed up in a hotel at Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla since last evening, has been killed.
We are launching an all out offensive to kill another fidayeen, still firing from the hotel building, a CRPF spokesman told UNI today.
He also said Inspector General of CRPF (Kashmir range) M S Gupta was on the spot. We are storming the building any time now, he said.
He said the encounter ensued yesterday evening when a group of militants in police uniform entered a hotel at Sopore, about 55 km from here after firing at Road Opening Party (ROP) of 177 batallion.
Militants continued firing from the hotel on CRPF, he said adding reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps and cordon around the building was further tightened.
Sharp shooters have taken position around the hotel and all escape routes were sealed.
One of the jawan of 179 batallion was injured, he said.
The crpf spokesman said in order to avoid civilian casualities security forces exercised restrain and did not returned the fire till all those present in the hotel building were rescued by the CRPF and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police.
The Spokesman also said the civilians rescued from the building said there were two militants with more than half a dozen magzines, two assault rifles and grenades.
He said immediately after the rescue operation, security forces also retaliated and killed one of the militant.
However, fire-fight stopped late in the night, he said adding when security forces tried to storm the building with first light, militant opened fire.
The fire was returned by the security forces, he said.
