Girl hospitalised with burns succumbs
Vijayawada, Nov 9 (UNI) A 19-year-old girl who was hospitalised at Gudivada in Krishna district, after setting herself ablaze on November four, died this evening.
Poice said the deceased girl Mahalakshmi took the extreme step due to alleged harassment by a man at her home in Pasupubotlavaripalem near Gudlavalleru. She suffered 90 per cent burns and her condition was stated to be critical since then.
Mahalakshmi, a senior Intermediate student at Sasanka college, told the police while undergoing treatment in the hospital that one K Satyanarayana, a tractor driver of Pesaramilli village, was harassing her for the last six months. He had also threatened that he would kill her if she spurned his love.
Later, the police arrested Satyanarayana at Kodada in Nalgonda district on November seven.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at the hospital after the death of Mahalakshmi as her family members demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
The body would be taken to Gudlavalleru after post-mortem tomorrow, police added.
