Nagpur, Nov 8 (UNI) A woman naxalite was killed in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was killed in an exchange of fire in the forest near village Laxmipur in Kurkheda tehsil of the district around noon. A group of armed naxalites opened fire on a patrol party, conducting a combing operation in the area. Police fired back in retaliation, police said.
The exchange of fire lasted 55 minutes, after which the naxalites fled from the spot. The police have seized the body of the dead naxalite woman. However, there were no casualties among the police.
It appeared from the amount of blood on the spot that two or three outlaws had sustained serious injuries, police sources said. The police later seized a SLR rifle, cartridges, three magazines, a diary, books and other papers from the spot, the sources added.
