Weather in freakish mode; before fireworks on Diwali come showers

New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Before fireworks on Diwali tomorrow, the capital had some wet moments this aftenoon when light showers came pouring down on the city even as the festivities got the better of the sun and it indulged in some fun and frolic with the city residents, playing hide and seek throughout the day.

The day started with a heavily overcast sky and scattered rainfall at around 1400 hrs mellowed down the winter sun and swaying trees in a gentle breeze made a perfect setting for a family outing.

According to the weatherman, though the minimum temperature in the morning rose to 16.2 degrees Celsius as against yesterday's 13.7 the sky became overcast as the day progressed, bringing down the temperature level slightly. The minimum was three degrees above normal.

The city recorded a rainfall of 1.8 mm and the maximum temperature remained at 26.5 degrees, three degrees below normal.

He said the near absence of sunshine coupled with mild winds made the weather somewhat pleasant in the morning.

The weatherman said the sky somewhat became clear after the showers and even the breeze petered out.

City motorists' rendezvous with characteristic smog continued even today.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky during the next 24 hours with the likelihood of mist or haze in the morning.
