Two AIIMS junior doctors assaulted; 3 booked
New Delhi, Nov 8(UNI) Two AIIMS junior doctors were roughed up and hospital property vandalised by the kin of a patient who died in the hospital last night.
The incident happened when the patient, who had been undergoing treatment for some serious spinal injuries for the past 25 days, succumbed to them at 2230 hrs. Following his death, the angry relatives, alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, created a ruckus and smashed window panes, Resident Doctors Association President Kumar Harsh told UNI today.
Two resident doctors suffered some injuries in the attack, he added.
Dr Harsh said the RDA took up the matter with the AIIMS Director.
The person in charge of security on the hospital premises was suspended, he informed.
Dr Harsh expressed grave concern at the fracas, saying such incidents were recurring at alarming regularity on the campus.
Soon a mobile unit of security personnel would be constituted which would immediately intervene if any such incident takes place, he informed, adding that even a counselling unit tackling the kin accompanying patients in such situations would be formed in the near future.
Meanwhile, three people were booked and arrested with regard to the incident.
The incident comes hard on the heels on the strike of neighbouring Safdarjung Hospital resident doctors early this month after the relatives of a patient assaulted one of their peers.
