Shimla, Nov 8 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) General Secretary Kuldeep Singh Rathore today said tribal areas of the state have witnessed phenomenal development under the successive Congress Governments.
Addressing mediapersons here, he said that the BJP has accepted its defeat in the ensuing assembly elections and thereby BJP was leveling false charges against the Congress.
''The BJP was leveling false charges against Congress for the sake of obtaining political mileage. In reality, it was the BJP that ignored the development needs of the tribal areas.'' Mr Rathore said the BJP should produce facts and figures pertaining to the development works undertaken during their regime.
It was during the Congress rule that Rs 1260 crore was earmarked for the developmental activities of tribal areas under the 11th five year plan and 62 new education institutions and a college was opened in the tribal areas.
Besides an installment of Rs 1355 crore for the Rohtang tunnel work in Lahaul-Spiti was made available, he The Congress leader alleged that the BJP was involving in trying to disrupt Congress rallies in the ongoing campaigning in the tribal constituencies.
The BJP activists had been making efforts to hinder rallies of the Congress by playing mischiefs, he said, adding that by adhering to such practices it was setting disgraceful standards of politics.
Remarking that the BJP was organizationally a divided house, Mr Rathore alleged that it was trying to create a divide among the people on the lines of region and caste and this would boomrang on it has the people would teach it a lesson in the polls.
