Rodrigues sends Diwali greetings

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today greeted the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.

In his message released here today, General Rodrigues said, "The festival of lights symbolises the victory of peace over conflict, good over evil, light over darkness and emphasises the need for us to be truthful and righteous, in our thoughts and actions." "This is an occasion for festivities and at the same time an opportunity for true introspection and self-analysis, to take corrective measures for our self-purification," Gen Rodrigues said.

"As this festival is also considered the start of the New Year, we must prepare a roadmap for a bright future and resolve to develop a progressive and positive outlook, to contribute to the good of society." Gen Rodrigues appealed to the people to celebrate Diwali in the true tradition of our composite culture and in an atmosphere of peace and harmony, rising above narrow considerations of caste, creed and religion.

He also impressed upon the residents to make this Diwali a noise and pollution free event, displaying the commitment for serene and beautiful environment.
