Puducherry, Nov 8 (UNI) The centrally administered Jawahar Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) hospital will have a regional cancer centre in its premises shortly.
According to JIPMER sources, though the Centre had sanctioned the Cancer Centre earlier, it was not implemented completely due to lack of space and equipment.
At present, a new building at a cost of Rs 12.8 crore had been constructed and all the equipment were made available.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss would announce the opening of the centre next month, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Dhanraj from Tindivanam yesterday led a cycle rally from Tindivanam to Puducherry to create cancer awareness among the people in his constituency. He said that people should come to JIPMER for treatment since, cancer could be cured if detected early.
