Militants ban Bengali script in Manipur schools
Imphal, Nov 8 (UNI) The Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup(KYKL) has announced that it will ban Bengali script in schools in Manipur for Classes I-III from 2008 onwards.
Meitei Mayek, the indigenous Manipuri script, was introduced after a strong long-drawn movement in Manipur. The KYKL, however, said that it will not impose the ban in the hill areas of Manipur, comprising Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Senapati, Chandel and Churachandpur districts.
