Festive season sees rise in sales of white goods
Mumbai Nov 8 (UNI) It's the time of year when we all, one or the other way go on a shopping spree thinking that there's no tomorrow.
The festive season, which commenced from mid-September with ''Ganesh Chaturthi'' winds up with Christmas in December, is seeing a spurt in sales of consumer durables and white goods.
This festive season shoppers are seeing a 30 to 40 per cent spurt in terms of volume.
Kishore Biyani, CEO of Future Group which runs the retail chain Big Bazar told UNI,''The festive season which started since Navratri, should contribute sales of nothing less than Rs 600-700 crores.'' Biyani is confident that three to four days of sales during Diwali will alone bring about Rs 200-300 crore.
The e-shopping trends are also showing encouraging trends.
Marketers of online shopping portals have lined up exciting offers for consumers to tap the Diwali sales bonanza. Offers such as gift vouchers and up to 22 per cent cashback offers are all set to double the online sales this Diwali over the previous year.
Gadgets which are expected to be the best sellers as customers are increasingly lapping up products such as LCD TVs, microwaves, MP3 players and digital cameras.
''Among the electronic goods this Diwali, we are registering a double-fold increase in sales of Ipods,'' said a trader.
Ajit Joshi, CEO and MD, Infinity mall which runs the chain of electronic retail shop ''Croma'' in city, said,''We are seeing an increase of sales by 30 to 40 per cent in values and in terms of volume in the festive season when compared to normal days.'' Currently, indiatimes.com is running a promotion where buyers are getting 22 per cent cashback on all purchases. Similarly, Indiaplaza is running a promotion where a buyer would get a chance to win an e-scratch card that either offers Rs 5,000 cashback or a jewellery gift voucher of a similar amount on purchases of Rs 5,000.
