Varanasi, Nov 8 (UNI) After huge protests drawn by Periyar's Sacchi Ramayana in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, Dharmacharyas of this holy city have urged the Mayawati government to put a stop on the sale of the book.
''It is the responsibility of the state government to see no controversial writings reach public. Therefore, 'Sacchi Ramayana,' which can create tension and harm brotherhood, should be banned immediately,'' the Dharmacharyas demanded.
Ramanand Sampradaya chief Shrimad Guru Ramanandcharya Swami told UNI, '' Lord Ram is an idol for all...any act that tarnishes His image mars the beliefs of crores of Hindus...the state government should inititate efforts to protect Indian culture and beliefs.'' ''It is sad to note that some are criticising the Lord, while some others are praising Him just to gain political benefits,'' respresentative of Shankaracharya Swamai Swaroopanand Saraswati Avimukteshvaranand Saraswati observed.
He further urged the intellectuals of the country to answer the much controversial remarks made in 'Sacchi Ramayana.' Noting no religious issue should be played at the name of politics, the Dharmacharyas demanded an immediate ban on the promotion of the book.
