Srinagar, Nov 8 (UNI) Five militants and three security personnel were among eight people killed, and four others were wounded while troops foiled an infiltration bid in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, an official spokesman said today.
Meanwhile, a gun-battle erupted between security forces and militants holed up in a hotel in the Apple-rich Sopore town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir this evening.
In another fierce ongoing encounter at Sadapora Mohalla in Pattan area of Baramulla district, the spokesman said two militants and three security personnel have been killed.
Four security men also sustained wounds in the gunfight. Two AK rifles and as many magazines were seized from the encounter site.
A defence spokesman here said troops noticed suspicious movement of militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara early today.
When challenged, the militants opened fire, which was effectively retaliated by the troops. In the ensuing gun-battle, one infiltrator was killed, he added.
Two AK rifles and one 9 mm pistol were seized from the site, the spokesman said, adding the operation was in progress when reports last came in.
He said two burnt bodies of militants were recovered from the Machil sector of Kupwara district today where a gunfight had taken place between troops and infiltrators on November one during which two militants were killed.
