Kokrajhar, Nov 6 (UNI) In yet another instance of witch hunting, an adivasi woman was killed in Assam's Kokrajhar district. Police said the body of Khafra Soren (50) was recovered today from the periphery of Bairali village, under Kachugaon police station, of the district.
The body bore marks of attack with sharp weapons and it is suspected to be a case of witch hunting. The date and time of death would be known only after a postmortem, police added.
One Marshall Bisra (22) has been arrested from neighbouring Panbari village. His accomplices are on the run and police have launched a manhunt to nab them.
Instances of witch hunting have been on the rise in Kokrajhar, Chiran and Udaluguri districts of the state, with many families ostracised on such allegations.
Women have been especially targeted and their vulnerability has made them easy preys of such social evils.
