Srinagar, Nov 7 (UNI) A festive wedding in a south Kashmir village turned to tragedy within seconds when a speeding vehicle crashed into the party, killing six people, three of them children, and wounding scores of others.
Police said the driver of a tipper-truck lost control over the vehicle at Peerbal Frisal village in Yaripora area of the Kulgam district last evening when wedding festivities were in full swing.
The women and children were singing traditional folk songs while seeing off the bride and the groom when the vehicle crashed in.
At least six people were killed and about 12 others critically injured in the accident, the police added.
The dead had been identified as Manzoor Matoo, his son Danish Matoo, Rozi Jan, Muhammad Shafi Najar, Sameera Jan and Adil Irshad.
The injured had been admitted to various hospitals in Bijbehara in Anantnag district and Srinagar.
A pall of gloom descended on the area soon after the tragedy.
