Chandigarh, Nov 7 (UNI) Government agencies and private millers have procured more than 122 lakh tonnes of paddy in Punjab.
According to an official spokesman, out of the total procurement of 122.64 lakh tonnes of Paddy in all the procurement centres of the state, government agencies had procured 100.57 lakh tonnes of paddy, till last evening which was 82 per cent of the total procurement, while the rest was procured by the millers.
Among the state government agencies, Pungrain had procured 25.77 lakh tonnes (25.6%) whereas Markfed procured 23.73 lakh tonnes (23.6%). Punsup procured 25.46 lakh tonnes (25.3%), PSWC procured 13.32 lakh tonnes (13.2%) whereas PAIC procured 10.96 lakh tonnes (10.9 %) of paddy. The Central government agency FCI procured 1.30 lakh tonnes, which was just 1.3 per cent of the total procurement.
The spokesman said that Ludhiana district with 16.23 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in the procurement operations whereas Sangrur district with 15.43 lakh tonnes of procurement was at the second slot and Patiala district with 12.78 lakh tonnes of procurement was ranked at the third position.
The spokesman added that the the state government had already made payment to the tune of Rs 6950.90 crore for paddy procured till November 5.
