Itanagar, Nov 7 (UNI) Keeping in view of the geographical and topographical factors, the NER Vision-2020 document, conceptualised by the Ministry of DoNER and North East Council (NEC), should be state specific, according to opinions forwarded by majority of participants in a public hearing organised here today.
Majority of the participants in the meeting chaired by NEC member Dr I K Borthakur stressed on the need to plan for a perspective vision in accordance to the future requirements of the constituent states of Northeast.
Highlighting the major objectives of the vision document, Dr Borthakur informed that the document was to visualize the quality and standard of life in Northeast by 2020 and to plan measures needed for sustainable development of the region.
Dr Borthakur while seeking suggestion and criticism from the people to add, modify and make the present vision draft document more meaningful, cohesive and useful in the planning process for the rapid development of the entire region.
While agreeing that no strict rule or measure could stop the deep-rooted corruption in the region, she called upon the people to join hands in checking the social evil and suggested for awareness campaigns, which she said would reduce the degree of corruption to some extent.
Most of the participants in the hearing were of the opinion that the plan process for the region's development should be routed through the Panchayati Raj Institutions and village development councils for effective planning on all fronts, including education, health, industry, agriculture, horticulture, sports and tourism.
