Militant, soldier among 3 killed, massive seizure in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 7 (UNI) A foreign militant and a soldier were among three people killed while security personnel seized a massive haul of arms and ammunition, including 35 kg explosive, in the Kashmir valley since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

A gun-battle erupted between security forces and militants at Sadapora Mohalla in Pattan area of Baramulla district last evening.

A foreign militant and a security personnel were killed in the ongoing fierce gunfight, the spokesman said, adding two other security men also sustained wounds in the encounter.

The operation was in progress when reports last came in.

A defence spokesman said personnel of 7 PARA, 160 Territorial Army (Home and Hearth) and the Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation in Shamsu Nar general area, about three km from Gulab, in Machhal sector of Kupwara district following tip off.

During the search of the area, security forces found an underground militant hideout stocked with large quantities of explosives and other war-like stores.

About 35 kg of explosive material, 80 hand grenades and 50 under barrel launcher grenades were seized from the hideout, he added.
