India likely to host Commonwealth Fencing event 2010

Patiala, Nov 7 (UNI) India is likely to host the Commonwealth Fencing Championship in 2010 preceding the Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi.

According to Arun Vij, secretary-general of Fencing Federation of India (FFI), who is also the vice-president of Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF), when the General Assembly of CFF meets in Madrid, Spain, on November 22, with Helen Smith of Australia in chair, it was expected to allot the 2010 Commonwealth Fencing Championship to India.

Mr Vij, who will be in Madrid to attend the CFF meeting, further said that the International Fencing Federation (FIE) will also meet in Madrid on November 24 and 25 to decide the venues and dates of the international fencing events to be held in 2009, including Grand Prix Fencing, World Cup Fencing, Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championship and Veteran World Cup Fencing.

About 100 member countries were likely to attend the CFF General Assembly and FIE meeting in Madrid.
