Port Blair, Nov 07 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Electricity department has cautioned consumers, who have been using electricity by way of unauthorised enhancement in connected load, especially during the Deepawali festival, without prior permission of the department.

An official release stated here today that the department had also deputed inspection teams of its engineers to different areas for checking the unauthorised extensions and usage of electricity.

''The administration and the Electricity department must not spoil our festive mood by imposing such restrictions,'' chief spokesperson of the Andaman unit of the Congress told UNI.

''Following the caution sounded by the Electricity department, many islanders are apprehensive about decorating their houses with lights and electric lamps.'' he said.

Mr Ganeshan said he would also consider taking up the matter with the Centre.

Meanwhile, despite strict monitoring over the sale of firecrackers, some dealers were selling crackers on retail here.
