New Delhi, Nov 7: Top BJP leaders today met at the residence of Leader of the Opposition L K Advani to finalise the party's views on the Indo-US nuclear deal. BJP sources said Mr Advani apprised the senior leaders of the discussions the party had with US Ambassador David C Mulford during the last week when several party leaders exchanged views with him on the nuke deal.
Besides Mr Mulford, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan also met Mr Advani to apprise him about the scientific and security perceptions of the deal.
Yesterday, Mr Advani indicated that the BJP was not averse to discussing the nuclear deal under a Clause which did not have a voting provision. Major portion of time in Parliament was lost because the BJP insisted on having the discussion under a rule that entailed voting. However, the UPA was not willing saying Parliament could not have voting on an issue concerning a Treaty signed with a foreign power.
The BJP is likely to come out with a statement after the latest round of meeting being attended by top party leaders, including BJP President Rajnath Singh and senior party leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha, Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
