Kolkata, Nov 7: The ruling Left Front today decided not to call Central Reserve police Force (CRPF) at Nandigram to tackle the continuous violence raging in the area.
''Deployment of CRPF at Nandigram is being postponed. It has been decided on the basis of a consensus in the Left Front,'' veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu said after a meeting of the coalition partners of CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc.
Pleading strongly for the state police to tackle the situation, Mr Basu said supporters of both the rival groups had arms in their hands in the embattled areas while bridges are being blown off and roads dug up.
''What are the state police doing there. Why are they not taking proper measures,'' he asked.
Mr Basu alleged that rival Trinamool Congress was not allowing CPI(M) supporters to live in the area. '' To live there, one has to be a Trinamool Congress supporter. This can not be accepted,'' he said.
In reply to a question, whether TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee would be called for peace talk, Mr Basu said '' If they want, of course we shall call her for a peaceful solution to the problem''.
