Professional jealousy and abuse of power threaten Dr Roy even as the secretary of Health reprimands him for breaking the news to the press.

Sinha got the National award as Best Director for this film, where a doctor is compelled to commit suicide as a result of an incompassionate system which denies due recognition to his talent.

The film also won the National award for the Second Best Feature Film.

His outstanding creations spanning more than five decades have established a place for him in the history of world cinema.
