Chennai, Nov 7: About 30 activists of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, espousing the cause of Lankan Tamils, were today arrested when they attempted to lay siege to the office of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here, condemning the killing of LTTE political wing leader S P Tamilselvan last week.

Led by Kazhagam President Kolathur Mani, the activists, carrying placards denouncing the killing, assembled near the Russian Cultural Centre on the Kasturiranga Road and came in a procession to the Lankan Deputy High Commission office.

However, police personnel, who had barricaded the area, arrested them and took them in a police van. They were released later.

The agitators also appealed to the Lankan Government to stop killing of innocent Tamils.

Mr Tamilselvan, who had participated in the Norway-brokered peace talks, was killed in an air strike by the Lankan military.
