Nagpur, Nov 6 (UNI) Police have arrested a woman and her suspected paramour after she allegedly killed her two children by throwing them into a well to get married to the man in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
According to police, the woman, identified as Archana Ramchandra Choudhari (28), was arrested along with Rakesh Raju Thakur (22) after the bodies of her sons, Satish (5) and Sunil (3), were fished out of a well in village Indala, about 7 kms from Gadchiroli, yesterday.
During interogation, Archana confessed she had committed the cruel act as Rakesh, with whom she had been having an affair, promised to marry her if she 'got rid of' the kids, police said.
The police had taken Archana in for questioning as villagers voiced their suspicion, since they had seen her with her children shortly before she raised an alarm that they had gone missing.
Archana was living with her aged mother in Indala as her husband, Ramchandra, went missing two years ago, police said. She eked a living by working as a construction worker, and met Rakesh at the site some months ago, police added.
Police have registered an offence under sections 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
