Lucknow, Nov 6 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police today arrested Sharif Diwan, a 'master kidnapper' from Bihar, who had earlier escaped from the police custody.
The STF here said Sharif and accomplice Tamzeer Alama were nabbed from Ghazipur area of the state capital, following a tip off.
Two pistols, a large number of live and empty cartridges were recovered from their possession.
On interrogation, Sharif disclosed he was appointed as a sub-inspector in Bihar Police. However, he left the job during training.
A resident of Gopalganj in Bihar, Sharif had escaped from police custody by breaking open a court lock up in August last year after he was arrested, following the kidnapping of a Varanasi businessman's son.
While the STF and special operations group (SOG) of Varanasi police had managed to free Gaurav Dwivedi in April last year, it had also held Sharif for the crime.
Besides Sharif, STF had also arrested Raju 'Bengali' for the crime. Bengali is a close associate of Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi, wanted for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanad Rai in November, 2005.
Sharif was arrested from an under construction building in Andhrapul area of Varanasi last year. He had escaped after breaking a court lock up on August 20 where he was taken for a court appearance.
