Three arrested for smuggling

Puducherry, Nov 6 (UNI) Three persons were arrested here in connection with smuggling of rectified spirit worth Rs two lakh.

Police said two constables Natarajan and Manjini, attached to Orleanpet Police Station, were on a night beat last night when they intercepted a van at Anna Nagar.

They questioned the driver and as they received no response Natarajan entered into the van to have a check. At this juncture the driver drove the vehicle with Natarajan inside.

Manjini informed the control room and subsequently all police stations. Police blocked the van along with two other vehicles at Pitchaveerampatinam.

On inspection, police found 1,750 liters of rectified spirit and arrested Murugan, Gopal Das and Selavaraj, a DMK functionary.
