New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Ending all speculation, Sachin Tendulkar has turned down the opportunity to become the Test captain for third time in his career.

The master blaster was widely tipped to take over the reins of the of the Indian cricket Team, as he was the vice-captain during the Test series in bangladesh and England. India is without a Test captain after Rahul Dravid resigned after the tour of England this summer.

Tendulkar has declined the Indian Test captaincy, citing personal reasons, two days before the national selectors are scheduled to decide on the position. The little master told CNN-IBN, ''I don't feel right about it at the moment.'' Tendulkar has captained the side in 25 Test winning just four of them before stepping down to concentrate on his batting.

The selectors are scheduled to meet at Mohali on November 8 to announce the team and pick a Test captain for the Test series against Pakistan and Australia.

After Tendulkar's refusal, India's current ODI and Twenty20 captain Mahender Singh Dhoni has emerged as the front runner to take up the job of leading the country in the Test arena also.

Meanwhile, former Indian coach Greg Chappell has taken a different take on the topic saying that the hard hitting wicketkeeper may not be ready for the grueling nature test captaincy and believes that Dhoni should be given atleast a year to be given the job.

''He (Dhoni) is doing his apprenticeship in the limited-over forms of the game. It won't be long before I think he is ready for (the captaincy of) all three,'' Chappell told another news channel.

''Probably another 12 months or more I think before he is perhaps ready for all three of them. A tour of Australia behind him will finish him off nicely as a cricketer and as a potential leader.'' Dhoni has impressed all and sundry with his captaincy skills, when he led a young team to claim the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, and was appointed as the captain of the ODI team for 12 matches including the ongoing five-match series against Pakistan.

India play three tests against Pakistan at home before touring Australia for a four-test Down under series.

His leadership ability was also lauded during the recent home series against Australia which the visitors won 4-2.

The 26-year-old wicketkeeper guided his side to a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first of the five match ODI series yesterday.
