Oppn stalls proceedings on various issues

Hyderabad, Nov 6 (UNI) The Opposition parties disrupted the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for sometime today to press for an immediate discussion on alleged diversion of Central funds allocated for the betterment of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the alleged encroachment of Wakf property.

As the House assembled for the day, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motion notices by the main opposition TDP on the alleged diversion of Central funds, the TRS on the alleged non-appointment of a nodal agency to monitor the implementation of the Special Component Plan for the benefit of SCs and STs and the BJP on alleged non-allocation of adequate funds for the welfare of SCs/STs.

The agitated Opposition members were on their feet, demanding setting aside the regular business and taking up discussion on the issue concerning the Dalits.

Order was restored after Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah assured the House that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would make a statement on the subject later.

The Speaker also disallowed adjournment motion notices by the AIMIM on alleged non-protection to the Wakf lands, CPI and CPI(M) on ''skyrocketing'' of prices of essential commodities and the BSP and CPI(ML) New Democracy on ''harassment'' of tribals by the police for allegedly helping naxalites in the agency areas.

AIMIM members, led by floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, were on their feet for sometime protesting against the Government's ''negligent'' attitute to protection of assets belonging to the minority community.
