Musharraf chairs meeting,reviews law and order

Islamabad, Nov 6 (UNI) President Pervez Musharraf today chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall security situation in the country, following the imposition of emergency and expressed satisfaction over the measures taken.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao and Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani attended the meeting at the President's Camp Office at Rawalpindi.

Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao gave an overview over the prevailing situation in the country and the measures taken by law enforcing agencies to address the security situation, reported APP.

President Musharraf directed the Interior Minister that all resources and assistance be made available to the law enforcement agencies so that they can operate unhindered to curb the activities of militants, extremists and terrorists.

''There is a need to gear up the law enforcement agencies so that these are in a better position to cope with militancy and extremists and to counter the threat of terrorism,'' said President Musharraf.

The Information Minister informed the meeting about the arrest of five journalists, four from Sindh and one from Punjab. The President ordered the immediate release of the arrested journalists.

Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani informed the President about the deployment of military troops in Federally Administered Tribal Areas and along the Pak-Afghan border for maintaining security.
