IEDs found near SP office, ONGC pipeline in Assam
Guwahati, Nov 6 (UNI) Two powerful IEDs were today recovered, one from an ONGC pipeline and another near the Superintendent of Police's (SP) office, in Assam's Sivsagar district.
Sivsagar SP Shyamal Saikia informed over phone that an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED), planted about 40 feet from his office's main gate, was recovered at 1130 hrs.
It was kept in a vegetable basket on a bicycle across the road of his office's main gate, he said.
The bomb was later defused by experts.
Mr Saikia further informed that another IED was recovered from an ONGC pipeline in Mamoran Mising village, under Sonari police station, of the district at about 0715 hrs.
Two boys had reportedly fixed the IED to the pipeline just after dawn.
No one has been arrested so far, the SP added.
Though he refused to confirm, the proscribed ULFA was suspected to be behind the incidents.
An ULFA couple, including a ''second lieutenant'' of the outfit and their child, were arrested in the district yesterday when they were trying to flee to neighbouring Nagaland.
