Shimla, Oct 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today advised state Animal Husbandry Minister Harsh Mahajan to contest the ensuing assembly elections, saying the people of the district have respect and love for him.

''I will advise Mr Mahajan to contest the coming assembly elections from Chamba as the people of the district have love and respect for him,'' he said at a press conference on the first day of his two day tour of the district.

Mr Singh said the party was looking at capable leaders like Mr Mahajan to contest and win this crucial assembly elections.

Accusing the BJP of giving a step motherly treatment to the tribal areas of the state, he said it had discontinued the Tribal Sub Plan during its tenure.

''The Congress is the only party that always stood for the people and would continue to do so,'' he said.

Replying to a question whether he would contest elections from Chamba, he said it was not possible for him to contest elections from every constituency of the state.
