Pune, Nov 6 (UNI) The proposal of Videocon for setting up of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Wagholi, near here, was turned down by the Finance Ministry following strong opposition by farmers, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said today.
Mr Pawar, who has been camping here since Sunday to resolve the industrial dispute between the Bajaj management and its workers' union, made this announcement at a prize distribution function at Chinchwad this morning.
He said he had received orders for the cancellation from the Ministry and the same was intimated to the concerned company authoritities.
The farmers had been agitating since Videocon submitted its proposal for acquisition of their agricultural lands.
''We won the case,'' said Vilas Landge, MLA from Haveli, who represented the farmers.
