Delhi on verge of a big win against Rajasthan

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Skipper Mithun Manhas struck a fine century and then the bowlers ripped through the Rajasthan batting line up, leaving them tottering at 188 for 7 to put Delhi on the verge of a big win at the end of the third day of the group ''A'' Super League match of Ranji trophy here today.

Delhi had made 119 in their first innings and then bundled out Rajasthan for paltry 85 runs. In their second essay Delhi piled up 387 and the visitors again put up a disappointing batting display but for some defiant showing by opener Gagan Khoda (71) and R Bisht (50 not out) match would have ended today.

Chasing an improbable target of 422 for a win, Rajasthan were on brink of humilating defeat when stumps were drawn as they still needed 234 runs with just three wickets in hand and a full day's play left.

Resuming at their overnight score of 317 for 4, Delhi managed only 70 more runs to their total losing six wickets. However Manhas, addd 14 runs to his overnight score of 86 to score his century before being bowled by Pankaj Singh.

Manhas's 100 included 12 hits to the fence and came in 249 minutes. Rajat Bhatia could only add 18 runs to his overnight score of 65 before being caught by Jhalani off Ghelot.

Pankaj Singh had his second successive haul of five wickets (5 for 110) and he ended the match with a tally of ten wickets for 153.

Rajasthan started poorly losing opener Saxena without a run on the board, though there was 69 run second-wicket partnership between Gagan Khoda and A Sharma but after that the visitors lost their way and six more wickets.

R Bisht however remained defiant and was unbeaten on 50(8x4) at stumps.
