Chennai, Nov 5 (UNI) Bolstered by overnight batsman Yogesh Takwale's knock of 79 and the eighth wicket stand of 82 runs, Maharashtra were all out for a formidable 430 in their first innings to push host Tamil Nadu to the brink on the third day of the Elite Group A league outing in the Ranji trophy cricket championship at the M A Chidambaram stadium here today.

As bad light stopped play nine minutes before the stumps after an extension of 30 minutes, Maharashtra medium pacers then rattled the Tamil Nadu innings, dismissing the first three wickets cheaply for 58 runs in 22 overs. While Wahid Sayad who did the maximum damage to Tamil Nadu innings picked up two wickets, former India pacer Munaf Patel claimed one.

Team India star Dinesh Karthik was batting on 13 off 23 balls with one four while night watchman C Ganapathy was at the crease with him without opening his account.

Earlier, as the weather cleared up after rain restricted the second day's play yesterday to a meagre 3.2 overs, Maharashtra picked up the gauntlet and aided by Takwale's 79 (190 minutes, 12 fours, one six), Vishal Bhilare's 40 (180 minutes, two fours, one six), Salil Agarkar's 33 (122 minutes, two fours) and Ashish Suryavanshi's 46 (91 balls, four fours, one six), swelled their score to 430 from 272 for four overnight.

And as the Tamil Nadu bowlers spearheaded by their young off- spinner R Aswin failed to restrict Maharashtra, Ashish and Salil put on a partnership of 82 runs off 29.5 overs in 113 minutes for the eighth wicket. Tamil Nadu medium pacers C Ganapathi and V Yo Mahesh picked up a wicket each.
