TDP stages dharna demanding MSP for foodgrain
Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) in Andhra Pradesh staged a dharna in front of the Assembly, demanding Minimum Support Price (MSP) for foodgrains, including paddy.
After the House was adjourned for the day, TDP MLAs sat near the main gate of the complex, carrying sheaves of paddy, groundnut, maize and raised anti-government slogans.
Talking to reporters, TDP leader P Kesav alleged that the government was not committed to ensure welfare of the farmers, resulting in the ''failure'' of procuring MSP for paddy on a par with wheat. The House was adjourned as the government did not like the opposition parties to raise the issue, he charged.
The party would exert pressure on the government to discuss the MSP issue in the House, Mr Kesav added.
