Power demand goes up to 6,200 MW

Bhopal, Nov 5 (UNI) Power demand has shot up to 6,200 MW in Madhya Pradesh in view of festivals and requirement for rabi crops but the State Electricity Board (MPSEB) was able to provide 5,500 MW power.

MPSEB secretary and Power Trading Company Managing Director P K Vaishya told UNI here that the MPSEB was able to obtain 2,600 MW -- 2,100 MW from thermal power plants and 500 MW from hydro power plants -- its own resources and 1,400 MW from central quota.

The MPSEB was receiving 750 MW from joint plants of the government and the Centre. It included 300 MW from the Sardar Sarovar Project, 300 MW from the Indira Sagar project and 150 MW from the Omkareshwar project.

Besides, it was purchasing 750 MW from various states including Punjab, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

He said power outage was being resorted to because of shortfall of about 700 MW power. The MPSEB was providing power for more than 15 hours in rural areas, which was a priority area at present.

After power cuts, tahsil headquarters were receiving 18 hours power supply every day, district headquarters were getting 21 hours and divisional headquarters were receiving 23 hours power supply.
