Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) The West Bengal Government today said the mobile phone of Rizwanur Rahman was not tapped even as CBI continued investigation into the mysterious death of the computer graphics teacher, questioning the fifth police officer in this connection.

While Rizwanur's family alleged that the youth, dogged by threats and fear, found his mobile tapped, Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray asserted there was no such evidence.

''I myself has checked the call list of Rizwanur's mobile.

Nothing has been found to suggest that the phone was tapped,'' he told reporters.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Depatment (CID) of the state police had conducted an investigation into Rizwanur's death and went through the call list of his mobile.

CBI replaced CID to take up the case following a Calcutta High Court order on October 16.

Meanwhile, CBI sleuths interrogated Inspector General of Police (Enforcement Branch) Nazrul Islam at his office in the state police headquarters in connection with Rizwanur's mysterious death.

Earlier, the Central agency had questioned four police officers, including two of IPS cadre. All of them--former Deputy Commissioners of Police Gyanwant Singh and Ajay Kumar, former Assistant Commissioner of Police(DD) Sukanti Chakraborty and Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das--had already been transferred by the state Government for interfering in Rizwanur-Priyanka's marriage.

However, Mr Islam was questioned in connection with his statement that he was a witness to the alleged threats by a Kolkata police officer to Sadiq, a witness to Rizwanur and Priyanka's marriage.

The IG had told a television channel that Sadiq had received a threat call over mobile from Krishnendu Das, a Sub-Inspector of the anti-rowdy section of Kolkata police, when he was sitting in front of Mr Islam in his chamber.

Sadique reportedly visited Mr Islam seeking help after he felt afraid of being killed either by police or the hired goons of the Todis, the IG told the media.

Mr Islam said he had even spoken to Krishnendu Das and asked him not to do anything of the sort.

The body of Rizwanur, who had married Priyanka, the daughter of businessman Ashok Todi, was found beside the railway tracks at Patipukur on the city's northern fringe.
