Luxmi Kanta urges doctors to listen to conscience

Kapurthala, Nov 5 (UNI) Punjab Health Minister Luxmi Kanta Chawla today appealed to the private doctors and owners of the scanning centres not to do the scanning which would affect the female feticide.

Addressing a meeting of private doctors and owners of the scanning centres here today, the Health Minister advised them to listen to their conscience while doing any such scanning which encoureged female foeticide.

She held the rich and middle class families responsible for the decline in the sex ratio of females which was declining in Punjab.

The Minister also listened to the suggestions made by the members of the IMA body to also consider other proofs of identity of the patient who came for scanning. The IMA body assured to help the government in checking the menace of female foeticide.

Earlier, the Minister also addressed a seminar on female foeticide at Virsa Vihar Kendra and also supervised the burning of spurious drugs seized by the health department.
