Rajkot, Gujarat, Nov 5 (UNI) At least six people were killed and five others injured when lightning struck them as unseasonal moderate to heavy showers lashed many parts of the Saurashtra region.
Two women were killed and one was injured when lightning struck them at Aditiyana village of Porbandar district. The injured has been admitted to a Porbandar hospital. The deceased have been identified as Lakhuben Dilip (55) and Gita Khima (25).
In another incident, at Ladudi village in Maliya Hatina taluka of Junagadh district, a teenaged girl, Hansa Rathod, was killed when lightning struck her. Her brother and sister suffered burn injuries.
A 55-year-old man, Jinabhai Merambhai, also died when lightning struck him at Katrasa village of Junagadh district, while his wife suffered burn injuries.
At Thali village of Mangrol taluka in Junagadh district, a 53-year-old farmer, Menandbahi Kamalia, was killed when lightning struck him.
A 25-year-old man of Bhimgadh village in Surendranagar district was killed when lightning struck him. The deceased has been identified as Vinu Bijal.
At Bhadthar village in Jamkhambhalia Taluka in Jamnagar district, a couple suffered severe burn injuries when lightning struck them.
Both have been admitted to the Khambhalia hospital, reports stated.
Unseasonal rains have caused severe damage to the cotton and groundnut crops in the region.
