Shillong, Nov 5 (UNI) Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member H S Shylla today accused Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), an ally of the Congress-led government in Meghalaya, of having ''links'' with National Awakening Movement of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)'.

The maverick Congress leader, reportedly to be in the HNLC's hit list, also accused the Khasi Student's Union and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and the people of ''maintaining links'' with the proscribed outfit.

Mr Shylla's accusations against the Khasi Hills-based political party and KSU assume significance in the backdrop of last week's gun battle, wherein a senior KHNAM worker and former KSU activists were killed in an encounter with four other HNLC ultras.

Mr Shylla told reporters here that he would soon lodge a compliant with the Election Commission against KHNAM for maintaining links with the militant outfit.

The KHADC Chief said he would also demand from the state government to investigate into the nexus between HNLC with KHNAM, KSU and FKJGP.

The senior Congress leader also demanded that the HNLC point out the actual reasons behind their decision to eliminate him. ''The HNLC must not hide the reasons behind their decision to kill me. I would like to know their reasons so that I can clarify,'' he said.

Earlier, the HNLC had allegedly attempted to assassinate Mr Shylla at his residence on the outskirts of the city. However, later, the police arrested one Velvet Rose Jana, who accompanied militants of the outfit to Mr Shylla's residence.
