Srinagar, Nov 5 (UNI) Troops foiled yet another infiltration bid, first after the imposition of emergency in Pakistan, when they killed two heavily armed militants in Machil sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
A Defence Ministry spokesman said troops of nine JAK Rifle noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the Machil sector early this morning under the cover of darkness.
When the militants entered this side of the Line of Control (LoC), security forces challenged them and asked them to surrender.
However, the militants opened fire, he said, adding the troops also returned the fire.
Two infiltrators were killed, he said, adding two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
He said it was evident that militants in different camps in PoK are under immense pressure to infiltrate into this side.
The authorities have put the troops guarding the border on very high alert to thwart any possible attempt by anti-Musharraf militants to sneak into this side because of intelligence inputs.
The anti-Musharraf militants will try to infiltrate into this side from PoK and other areas in Pakistan to avoid Army crack down against them, following imposition of emergency in the neighbouring country, official sources said.
They said though the number of infiltration attempts has come down after both the countries declared ceasefire on the border few years back, of late the number has increased.
The troops have killed more than 50 militants this year after they entered Jammu and Kashmir, the sources said, adding about 1500 more are waiting to sneak into this side before the routes are closed due to snowfall.
The number of infiltrations may increase, as anti-Musharraf militants will try to enter this side during this month because of dry weather.
The sources said these militants will like to take shelter in hideouts in the bordering areas as Army in that country will start nationwide driver against them.
