New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) The Government would issue a postage stamp in memory of late former Haryana Chief Minister Banarsi Das Gupta on his 91st birth anniversary next year, Minister of State for Finance Pawan Bansal said today.
''We hope to make the announcement before his 91st birth anniversary on November 5, 2008,'' Mr Bansal said at a function to honour Gandhian and social activist Nirmala Deshpande with the First 'Banarsi Das Gupta Rashtriya Gaurav Puraskar'.
The award, which consisted of a cash prize of Rs one lakh and one thousand and a souvenir, was presented by Vice-President Hamid Ansari.
On the occasion, the Vice-President also launched a website, www.bdguptafoundation.in.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was present for a brief moment to light the ceremonial lamp.
Mr Bansal said a living memorial to late Gandhian Banarsi Das should be built in his home town Bhiwani, which should include a library.
Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said the country was not facing any financial problem nor any danger to its integrity from elements either within or outside.
''What the country is facing is the danger to moral values, be it in political life or any other walk of life. If we rise above that then nobody can stop us from progressing,'' he said and called for following the Gandhian path shown by Banarsi Das.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda also spoke.
