Sriganganagar, Nov 5 (UNI) A large number of farmers took part in an indefinite 'dharna' to press for their demands, including enhancement in quantum and frequency of release of water from the Indira Gandhi Canal during the Rabi crop season, in Ghadsana town here today.
The 'dharna' was called by the Kisan Mazdoor Traders Action Committee. Action Committee convenor and former MLA Hetram Beniwal and several other leaders held a meeting at the Dhan Mandi ground as part of the ongoing agitation.
The committee decided to intensify the agitation from November 15 with the holding of 'dharna-gherao' at various administrative offices in Ghadsana and relay 'dharnas' in other towns along the Indira Gandhi Canal areas.
This is the fourth phase of the farmers' agitation in the Indira Gandhi Canal area in the region. Earlier, three phases of agitation were marred by violence and the authorities have made security arrangements in Ghadsana to prevent the violence.
