Cong seeks action against posters mourning LTTE leader's death

Puducherry, Nov 5 (UNI) AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy, MP, today demanded Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi initiate action against those organisations which brought out posters to mourn the death of LTTE political advisor Thamilselvan.

Talking to newspersons here, he said it was not fair to support a banned organisation.

On the issue of smuggling rice from Puducherry, he said a CBI probe was essential to protect the Union Territory from becoming a centre for smuggling.

Mr Narayanasamy said he had discussed the matter with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and the Central Civil Supplies Secretary had written a letter to the territorial administration to initiate action and give a detailed action taken report to the Centre.

On the deterioration of law and order situation, he said the police force should be geared up and action taken against those who lag behind.

To ensure the development of Karaikal, Mr Narayanasamy said a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) should be set up in the region and it could be started in the land acquired by the PIPDIC. Necessary steps should be taken to boost tourism in the region and the allocation for the region should be fully spent for it.

On the abduction of fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, he said he would pursue the matter with the External Affairs Minister and steps would be taken to provide adequate security to the fishermen.
