Fatehabad, Nov 5 (UNI) Panic gripped villagers at Bhoda Hoshnak in this district, when children playing near the village pond stumbled upon a 50 kg live shell.
According to reports, the village sarpanch immediately called police which took the shell to Badopal police post and informed the Army authorities at Hisar cantonment.
An Army team led by Major Subramaniam, reached Badopal and after inspecting the shell, reportedly told the police that it was live but inactive due to absence of the fuse conductor.
The shell, according to police sources, could have gone off despite the absence of the fuse conductor.
The Army officials have buried the shell in the ground and said they would visit the village again for diffusing it.
The villagers felt that the shell could have been left by mistake by an Army contingent which had stopped near the village sometime back for their usual drills.
The police, meanwhile, is waiting for the report of the Army authorities before taking any further action.
